From Cosenza to Cyprus for the Underwater Heritage Preservation
Tuesday, 07 May 2019The 2nd International Workshop of Underwater 3D Recording and Modelling has taken place on the 2nd and 3rd of May in Limassol (Cyprus). 3D Research has joined the conference as golden sponsor, presenting the latest developments of the Horizon 2020 iMare Culture project.
In particular, our speakers showed the results of the work carried on in the Baia Underwater Archaeological Park (Archaeological Park of the Phlegraean Fields) by the iMare Culture team, about the development of new technological solutions to allow the access Underwater Cultural Heritage. Technologies like the Underwater Augmented Reality System and the "Dry Visit" virtual tours. The first one helps the divers while visiting the submerged ancient Baiae, giving them an assisted navigation and the possibility to observe the hypothetical 3D reconstruction of the "Villa con Ingresso a Protiro" (II century A.D.) through an underwater tablet. The second one is a virtual tour into the underwater archaeological park through which everyone (even those who do not dive) can visit the ruins and "go back to the past" and diving firsthand into the hypothetical reconstruction of the Villa.
The attendees of the workshop have had the chance to try on their own the "Dry Visit" system at the 3D Research and iMare Culture stands.
Here some photos of the event.
